Last Week’s Meeting – 17th November, 2009 President Brian welcomed Guest Speakers Barbie Davies, and Murray Kanneh of Sierra Unite, and Tia and Alonso. Former member Jack Opie introduced himself, while Ian Salmon introduced his guest Glenn Frost and John Jobson introduced his wife Bronwyn. Alonso reported on a very nice week. Last Friday was his birthday. On Saturday he was on the Jumbo Flight. He went to church on Sunday, and played drums there. Sue Rice organised a birthday lunch featuring Mexican dinners. Tia Is staying at the Rices because her regular host family is away, so her week was similar. She had found the Jumbo Flight a wonderful experience was particularly impressed by the view she got of Sydney Harbour. She had heard Alonso playing drums at church. The Mexican lunch was very good. Hasily she added that she had been to school too, before Michael Barnett could get a word in. President Brian reminded us of the cocktail party next Tuesday night. The purpose is to say thank you to all the supporters who help the Club in all its activities. It will run from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm and will be fully catered with finger food being served. There will be a hamper raffle to support Exodus. Ross Warden reported on the Jumbo Flight. The Flight, based on the childrens’ reactions, was completely successful. Cathy Freeman was there, although many of the children being under eight years of age were not sure who she was. Sue Rice did the seat allocation this year and Ross congratulated her on a very good job. Victor Brushe, who had been on the plane, said that he had found it a very joyful and exciting experience. The weather was superb. The plane flew low across the harbour, then turned left and flew to Lake Macquarie. He found the whole thing remarkably well organised. Secretary Julie White reminded us of the get together of past and present members from 4.30 pm to 7 pm at Ian Salmon’s house on Sunday 22nd. She also has brochures for Christmas cards in aid of the Childrens Medical Research Foundation. Gavin Connor drew attention to the Australia Day harbour cruise on the MV Jerry Bailey. The Good News was that the airbags on her car worked. Guest Speakers Roger Henley introduced Barbie Davis and Murray Kanneh. He called them two points on vast network doing great things especially in Sierra Leone.
